Software Updates

Grace Instrument occasionally updates instrument software to fix errors and enhance the user experience. Please check below to see if there are any software updates for your instrument.

SOFTWARE UPDATE INFORMATION

NOTE: All Grace Instrument software must be installed from an installation CD or other installation media provided by Grace Instrument in order to function properly, and the user must be logged into the PC using an Administrator account during installation. One copy of the necessary installation media is included with each instrument. If you have not installed the Grace Instrument software from your original installation CD or media, the updates available for download from this site cannot be applied, and the Grace Instrument software will not run.
  1. Replacement installation media can be ordered from Grace Instrument at any time.
  2. After the initial setup of your Grace Instrument product is complete, please take care that any installation media (CD or other digital delivery mechanism) that came with the Operation Manual is kept in a safe place and is accessible, should the need arise to reinstall the Grace Instrument software.
  3. Should this media become lost or damaged, you will need to contact Grace Instrument to obtain replacement installation media. Replacement media for Grace Instrument software will be provided at a cost of $199.00 per unit for out-of-warranty customers. Each copy will have a unique serial number for tracking purposes and will be shipped within one (1) business day.
  1. Unless otherwise indicated, all Grace Instrument software is compatible with all Microsoft Windows versions from Windows 9x to Windows 8.1, both 32-bit and 64-bit. Grace Instrument software must be installed and run from an Administrator account.

  1. If you are using an older USB to Serial Adaptor cable, please refer to this USB Serial Adaptors Com Port Instructions guide. It may be advisable to add an upgraded USB to Serial adaptor to your replacement installation media order, as we are unable to supply drivers for out-of-warranty USB to Serial adaptors.
  2. The Grace Instrument software installation media which accompanied your Grace Instrument product contains drivers which are compatible with the USB to Serial Adaptors which may have also accompanied your Grace Instrument product. These drivers are available for download free of charge, should you need to reinstall them.
  3. Download the file linked below and unzip it to a directory on your hard drive. When reinstalling the drivers, use the Browse button to choose the directory where you unzipped the files. Download the latest file here:

Before upgrading, installing, or uninstalling any Grace Instrument software, it is strongly advised to make a backup copy of any existing database file(s). This is to ensure all saved test data, including user-created tests and all test results, are backed up and saved.

If you value your existing test data, it is strongly advised that you follow the instructions below and keep backup file(s) stored in a safe location. Make backups periodically as needed to ensure your data is safe. Two backup copies of each database file required for your machine are recommended, one on your PC and one on an external USB. It is strongly recommended to place each backup database file in a separate folder, labeled with a reference to the directory in which it was found, for future reference.

To back up your database file(s), perform the following:
Step 1: Log into the administrator account that performs or will perform testing.

Step 2: Press the Windows Key and E (⊞ + E) to open Windows Explorer.

Step 3: From Windows Explorer, open the C:\ drive.

(To do this, copy and paste C:\ into the directory bar located near the top of the window.)

(When the software was installed to the PC for the first time, it should have installed to a folder in the C:\ drive by default unless otherwise specified by the user. If you instructed the software to install on a different drive, open that drive instead.)

Step 4: In the search bar located in the top right of Windows Explorer, type .mdb, then press Enter to search the drive for .mdb files. Next, search for .accdb and .laccdb files.

Step 5: Take note of the location(s) in which the database file(s) (.mdb, .accdb, and/or .laccdb files) for the machine exist. The following expandable subsections list common locations these database file(s) may reside depending on the operating system. Before proceeding, doublecheck the locations that may correspond to your operating system below to ensure you have every database file needed (IN ADDITION to any others that appear in the search results for the machine).

The default installation folder under Windows 9x to XP for most Grace Instrument software is:

C:\Program Files\[INSTRUMENT MODEL NUMBER, SOFTWARE NAME, and/or VERSION]

For example, M3600DAQ™ for the M3600 Rheometer is installed in the folder:

C:\Program Files\M3600DAQ

Or, if you specified a different folder during initial installation, open that folder instead.

The default installation folder containing your database file(s) under Windows Vista or 7 is:

C:\Program Files\[INSTRUMENT MODEL NUMBER, SOFTWARE NAME, and/or VERSION]

For example, the M5600 .accdb database for M5600 HP/HT Rheometer Software Version 3 is installed in the folder:

C:\Program Files\M5600v3

Or, if you specified a different folder during initial installation, open that folder instead.

Some versions of software may contain additional database file(s) in this folder too:

C:\Users\[YOUR_ACCOUNT]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\[INSTRUMENT MODEL NUMBER, SOFTWARE NAME, and/or VERSION]

For example, an M5600 .accdb database for versions of the M5600 HP/HT Rheometer Software before Version 3.2.0.45 may be in the C:\Program Files\M5600v3 folder AND this folder:

C:\Users\[YOUR _ACCOUNT]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files(x86)\M5600v3

Some versions of software may contain .laccdb database file(s) in this folder too:

C:\Users\[YOUR_ACCOUNT]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\[INSTRUMENT MODEL NUMBER, SOFTWARE NAME, and/or VERSION]

For example, an M5600 .laccdb database for versions of the M5600 HP/HT Rheometer Software before Version 3.2.0.45 may be in this folder:

C:\Users\[YOUR _ACCOUNT]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files(x86)\M5600v3

If you have database files in more than one location for the same machine, the database file in the C:\Program Files\[INSTRUMENT MODEL NUMBER, SOFTWARE NAME, and/or VERSION] location is probably inert and will likely not contain any changes you make to the database, such as adding, modifying, or deleting tests or test result files. In this case, the database that does contain your saved test data is likely the .mdb or .accdb one contained in the C:\Users\[YOUR_ACCOUNT]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\[INSTRUMENT MODEL NUMBER, SOFTWARE NAME, and/or VERSION] folder. This discrepancy was previously necessary to accommodate the latest updates in Windows Vista/7.

Any .laccdb file you find is inert.

The default installation folder containing your database under Windows 8 or 8.1 is:

C:\Program Files (x86)\[INSTRUMENT MODEL NUMBER, SOFTWARE NAME, and/or VERSION]

Or, if you specified a different folder during initial installation, open that folder instead.

For Windows 10, the default installation folder containing your database file(s) is:
C:\Program Files\[INSTRUMENT MODEL NUMBER, SOFTWARE NAME, and/or VERSION]

For example, the M5600 HPHT Rheometer Software Version 3’s .accdb database is installed in:
C:\Program Files\M5600v3

Some software versions have additional database file(s) in this folder:
C:\Users\[YOUR_ACCOUNT]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\[INSTRUMENT MODEL NUMBER, SOFTWARE NAME, and/or VERSION]

For example, an M5600 .accdb database may be in both of these folders:
  • C:\Program Files\M5600v3
  • C:\Users\[YOUR _ACCOUNT]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files(x86)\M5600v3

If you specified a different folder during initial installation, open that folder instead.

Some versions of software may contain .laccdb database file(s). Any .laccdb files you find are inert.

If you have database files in more than one location for the same machine, the database file in the C:\Program Files\[INSTRUMENT MODEL NUMBER, SOFTWARE NAME, and/or VERSION] location is likely inert and will likely not have any changes you make to the database, such as adding, modifying, or deleting tests or test result files. In this case, the database with your saved test data is likely the .mdb or .accdb file in the C:\Users\[YOUR_ACCOUNT]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\[INSTRUMENT MODEL NUMBER, SOFTWARE NAME, and/or VERSION] folder. This discrepancy was previously necessary to accommodate the latest updates in Windows 10.

Step 6: Make sure that at least one of the database files you found is the latest database file with your testing data. To do this, check the extension, date stamp, and file size.

a. The extension MUST be .mdb or .accdb.

b. The date stamp MUST correspond to the date you last performed testing.

c. The file size should be larger than the size of the blank database that appeared in the C:\Program Files\[INSTRUMENT MODEL NUMBER, SOFTWARE NAME, and/or VERSION] folder when the program was first installed. (If you have database files in more than one location for the same machine, the one that is the latest database will have a date stamp that corresponds with the last testing date and will be a larger file size than the other database files.)

Step 7: Make a backup of ALL the database files (.mdb, .accdb, and .laccdb) for the machine that were found after searching and were in the listed locations above specified for your operating system, even if they are inert. This is to ensure that the user has a copy of ALL database files just in case the wrong one was chosen for latest database file.

To do this, copy all database file(s) and save them in a safe place. Two backup copies of each database file required for your machine are recommended, one on your PC and one on an external USB. It is strongly recommended to place each backup database file in a separate folder, labeled with a reference to the directory it was found in for future reference.

Step 8: Make backups periodically as needed to ensure your data is safe.

To restore a backed-up database file:
Step 1: Make sure you have a backup of your database with the latest testing data before proceeding. See the steps in the To back up your database file(s), perform the following: section above for detailed instructions, especially step 6.

Step 2: Log into an administrator account that is performing testing.

Step 3: Restore the latest database file. To do this, copy your .mbd or .accdb database file backup to the C:\Program Files\[INSTRUMENT MODEL NUMBER, SOFTWARE NAME, and/or VERSION] folder, overwriting the default database file. Or, if you specified a different folder during initial installation, overwrite to that folder instead.

Step 4: The software should now contain your saved testing data. Open the software to verify.

If not, upgrade to the latest software version, then perform step 3 above again. If no updates are available, and if you have database files in more than one location for the same machine, also copy your database backup to the C:\Users\[YOUR_ACCOUNT]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\[INSTRUMENT MODEL NUMBER, SOFTWARE NAME, and/or VERSION] folder, then open the software to verify your latest testing data appears.
NOTE: Carefully read the Terms of Use and End User License Agreement. By accessing or using any software download links on this page, you agree to the terms and conditions set forth in the Terms of Use and End User License Agreement and are bound by these terms.
